a new contemporary icon for Versilia

Hotel Principessa Forte dei Marmi is opening in Forte dei Marmi, a new destination that reinterprets the Versilia lifestyle with a contemporary twist

Sitting in front of La Capannina, the new Hotel Principessa Forte dei Marmi strikes a refined balance between the intimacy of a private villa and the international spirit of Autograph Collection Hotels, part of the global Marriott Bonvoy network. The property features just 36 rooms and suites with generous outdoor terraces inviting guests to embrace the gentle rhythm that has long defined summers in Forte: slow mornings by bicycle, enhanced by the hotel’s partnership with Bagno Costanza, afternoons shaped by sea breezes, and evenings filled with conversation, gastronomy, and connection.

At the heart of the property is Marias restaurant, led by the internationally renowned chef Jason Atherton whose culinary vision blends global influences with the seasonality of Tuscan products, featuring the talented Italian Executive chef Giorgio Cicero. The restaurant serves as a social hub, welcoming both hotel guests and the local community.

“Principessa Forte dei Marmi, Autograph Collection represents a new expression of Forte dei Marmi – says the General Manager Laura Zanoli. - With a regal yet fresh attitude, as its names itself suggests, it combines the global standards of Autograph Collection Hotels with the cultural authenticity of Versilia, inviting guests to discover the Riviera in a more personal, design-led, and intimate way.”

Another distinctive feature of the hotel—which was created through the renovation of the old Areion—is its architecture, designed as a fluid, sculptural structure inspired by the silhouette of a yacht sailing out to sea. The design connects the inside with the outside, linking the coastline with the shape of the Apuan Alps. Light flows freely throughout the property, bouncing across surfaces crafted from natural, regionally sourced materials, echoing the nuanced tones of the coastline, ivory, taupe, and the shifting hues of the dunes depending on the sun’s angle. Its artisanal production, achieved through meticulous waterjet cutting by local craftsmen, ensures a textured finish that is both refined and deeply evocative of Forte dei Marmi’s natural beauty.

The new hotel is woven into the cultural fabric of Versilia, drawing inspiration from its artistic heritage and proximity to Pietrasanta, home to great artists like Igor Mitoraj and Fernando Botero. This relationship is expressed through collaborations with local artisans, the choice of materials, and the hotel’s broader narrative, which honors both the rigor of Italian craftsmanship and the Riviera’s timeless aesthetic sensibility.

More than a new hotel, Principessa Forte dei Marmi is a contemporary signature for the Riviera - a place where global sophistication meets local soul, where craftsmanship and design enrich every detail, and where the effortless elegance of Forte dei Marmi is reinterpreted for a new era.
