The small, welcoming Erbario Toscano boutique in Forte dei Marmi is a new and exciting place to be. Amidst fragrant ampoules and fairy-tale images, the air holds a dreamlike magic that invites us to board an imaginary Orient Express. For an olfactory journey through Tuscany’s most evocative landscapes, guided by our sense of smell, to discover the twelve roads of perfume. Creator Egisto Bertozzi pays homage to his land and helps the public to discover the alchemy of fragrances, the bonds that link his perfumes to the marvels of Tuscany. We set out from Pietrasanta to travel to Malbacco, San Gimignano, Castelfalfi, Florence, the Val d’Orcia, Siena, Arezzo, and into the Maremma region. With Tabacco Dolce we’re in Lucca: the sweetish trail of a pipe fades into the twilight over the bell towers of the city’s hundred churches and the surrounding green hills. In Bolgheri, we breathe the effervescent fragrance and the fresh citrusy notes of Rabarbaro Esperidato in the shade of centuries-old cypresses. The attraction of the singer’s art is strong in Torre del Lago Puccini, where a flowered breeze over mimosa and white jasmine explodes in Fior Gentile like a melody from Madama Butterfly.

Every place is special; every territory has its own wealth of memories begging a voice. Twelve essences for twelve stories and a fil rouge tying them into a single narrative. Erbario Toscano’s attention is not turned entirely to flowering times and harvesting in respect of hundreds of years of tradition and custom, but also to the alcohol it uses, from organic agriculture, and to sustainable packaging in ultralight glass bottles for savings on CO2 emissions. And after this prelude, all that remains is to visit the boutique. To embark on a tour of all-Tuscan fragrances, and as we explore the roads of perfume, to refresh our spirits and transform our psyches.
